The Daily Sentinel Ina Fern (Haehl) McGuire Ina Fern (Haehl) McGuire, age 88, died Friday July 31, 2009 at Towsley Village, Chelsea Retirement Center in Chelsea, Mich.Born July 29, 1921, in Shelby County, she was the daughter of J. Walter and Opal (Fuchs) Haehl. She married Cecil McGuire on August 14, 1959, and he preceded her in death on September 22, 1976. Survivors include her sisters, Alta Long of Shelbyville and Reba McCain of Bengal; stepchildren, Gary (wife, Kathi) McGuire of Bedford, Ky.; and Sheila Gaye (Wayne) McAlister of Carrollton, Ky.; stepgrandchildren, Eric, Lindsay, and Shannon; five great stepgrandchildren; nine nieces and nephews; and several great and great-great nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents; brother, Chez Haehl; nephew, Jay Long; stepgrandson, Shawn McAlister; great nephew, Jeremy Wright; and great niece, Christa Haehl. Mrs. McGuire had been employed with Indiana Bell in Shelbyville; McGuire Pipeline Construction in Columbus; and Goodyear Tire in Scottsboro, where she retired in 1986. She graduated from Waldon High School in 1939. Mrs. McGuire was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Scottsboro. She was a lively woman and enjoyed fitness walking, water skiing, line dancing, golfing, bowling, reading and playing cards. She traveled extensively and loved entertaining family and friends at her beautiful home on the Tennessee River, where she lived for 30 years. She was an avid bird watcher and participated in bird counts for the Audubon Society. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 4, 2009, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a funeral service to follow at 1 p.m. at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. Shelbyville, Ind. Burial will be in Garland Brook Cemetery in Columbus. A celebration of life will be held later in August.
