Missing child found
Published December 5, 2009
A child reported missing Thursday was located Friday morning and taken to a children's hospital in Chattanooga.
Sgt. Scott Matthews of the Scottsboro Police Department said authorities were notified after a woman and her boyfriend took her 23-month-old child to a doctor’s office on Harley Street in Scottsboro Thursday afternoon.
“DHR was notified due to injuries on the child,” said Matthews. “The mother got wind DHR had been called, got the baby and left. The baby had not been treated.”
A missing child alert was issued by the Alabama Department of Public Safety for John Will Thompson. It was reported the child was in the custody of his mother, Pamela Thompson and her boyfriend, Craig Guess Jr. and in need of medical attention.
Matthews said he talked with Pamela Thompson Friday morning.
“She agreed to meet at her sister’s house on Steam Plant Road in Stevenson,” Matthews said.
Because of the location, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office was contacted.
Sheriff Dennis Miller said the child was taken to T.C. Thompson Children Hospital in Chattanooga, Tenn.
“Investigators reported the child was playful and walking, but he did have visible bruises,” Miller said.
Miller said no charges have been filed against the mother or boyfriend.
“It's very early in the investigation,” he said. “First and foremost, our concern is with the child to make sure he is safe and receiving medical treatment.”
