Man shot Friday in Skyline

Published December 8, 2009

A domestic situation involving a brother and sister resulted in another man being shot Friday afternoon at a residence in Skyline.

Captain Eric Woodall of the Jackson County Sheriff's Office said Paul Gilliam, 31, of Skyline, allegedly got into a fight with his sister at a residence on County Road 219. Another person at the residence attempted to break up the fight.

Woodall said Gilliam allegedly shot the Donald Stubblefield, Jr., 25, of Huntland, Tenn. in the leg with a rifle.

“After the victim was shot, he allegedly struck [Gilliam] in the head with an unknown object,” Woodall said.

Woodall added that alcohol appeared to be a factor in the incident.

Stubblefield was transported to Huntsville Hospital by Air-Evac. His condition was unknown.

Gilliam, who was transported by ambulance to Highlands Medical Center where he was treated, was arrested after being released from the hospital and charged with Domestic Violence Third Degree, Assault and Assault First Degree.

He is currently out of the Jackson County Jail on $25,500 bond.
