Council approves tearing down old shelter
Published November 4, 2009
During a quick work session Monday, the Scottsboro City Council chose to tear down the city’s old animal shelter, located on airport property.
Mayor Melton Potter said the old animal shelter consists of a building and 14 outside kennels.
Potter added the airport needs to be secured at all areas.
Police chief Ralph Dawe recommended tearing the building down, rather than trying to move it.
“It’s termite infested,” Dawe said. “You’d be wasting money trying to move it. The kennels are in poor condition too.”
Also at the work session, street department superintendent Ronnie Dolberry presented his department's organizational chart.
One change to the chart includes reducing the number of foremen from four to three and adding another equipment operator.
Dolberry said that will save the department $2 to $3 per hour.
