Volunteers sought for fundraiser

Published August 31, 2009

Michael Sharp, owner of On Calvary’s Hill Weddings and Events in Scottsboro, is looking for volunteers and sponsors for a planned Halloween Haunted house event to benefit a local teen diagnosed with cancer.

People are needed to play characters in the haunted house, sell concessions at the event and to help set up and decorate the venue for the event.

“We’re looking for anyone,” Sharp said. “We’re opening up for anyone who wants to help.”

Sharp also said donations are being accepted, whether monetary or donations of old Halloween costumes, wigs or decorations for use at the haunted house. He said any donated hay would also be appreciated.

Sharp said the 17-year-old teen was diagnosed earlier this year with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. He said he did not wish to reveal her name because of privacy and because the benefit is to be a surpise for her.

The haunted house, trail and hayride will be going on from 8 p.m. until midnight each Friday and Saturday night from Sept. 18 until Oct. 24

The haunted house will be open nightly from 8 p.m. until midnight Monday, Oct. 26 through Saturday, Oct. 31.

The haunted house will be inside On Calvary’s Hill, located at 3210 E. Willow St., and the hay ride will run up Rogers Road.

Cost for the house, trail and hayride is $5 per person and groups of five or more can take advantage of the group rates ($4 per person).

Sharp said a party will be thrown for the volunteers on Halloween night after the haunted house as a way to say “thank you” for all the help.

To volunteer or for more information about the haunted house, please contact Sharp by calling 256-259-1929.
