Missing teens found unharmed

Published April 23, 2009

Two local teenagers missing since Saturday night were found Wednesday at a rest area in Butler County.

William Edward Bynum, 15, of Scottsboro and Alana Brooke McAllister, 16, of Skyline had been last seen together at the Veteran's Fairgrounds in Scottsboro Saturday at 8 p.m. in a 1997 Honda Accord, silver in color.

The parents of both teenagers had filed a missing persons report with both the Scottsboro Police Department and Jackson County Sheriff's Office.

Both agencies, led by Captain Barry Capps of the police department and Captain Chuck Phillips of the sheriff's office, were conducting the search for the teenagers.

Phillips said Bynum and McAllister were found about 45 miles south of Montgomery at a rest stop after running out of gas.

"They had been there three days just hanging out," said Phillips.

Phillips said a person working at the rest area reported them to law enforcement officials in Butler County, who then ran the vehicle's tag number.

"They're both fine," said Phillips. "The parents are on their way down to get them."
