Falcons take advantage of Vikings’ miscues

Published October 31, 2009

Donoho scored 33 unanswered points and held off Skyline late for a 33-22 win Friday night in Anniston.

Skyline jumped ahead 6-0 in the first quarter on a 1-yard touchdown run by Josh Beam, but the Falcons expanded its 7-6 second quarter lead thanks to Skyline turnovers.

The Vikings' Chris Dulaney blocked a Donoho punt to set Skyline up with the ball at the Donoho 30, but a Vikings' pass was intercepted and returned 70-plus yards for a Donoho touchdown. The Falcons later turned a Skyline fumble into another score for a 21-6 halftime lead.

Donoho (1-9) lead 33-6 in the fourth quarter before touchdown runs by Rynn Rodgers and Beam pulled the Vikings (1-9) within 33-22.

The win for the Falcons avenged Skyline's 30-25 victory last season.

Beam finished with 150 yards and two scores on 25 carries.

Rodgers finished with 63 yards on 12 carries, while Gordon added 49 yards on 11 attempts. Gordon completed 2 of 6 passes for 19 yards, with Cody Brown making one catch for 10 yards and Patrick Jones the other for 9 yards.

William Perry led the Vikings' defense with six tackles, while Brown and Dulaney finished with five apiece. Chad Richey and Brandon Skipper each had four tackles.
