It’s almost parade time
Published December 2, 2009
The Greater Jackson County Chamber of Commerce will honor the many agencies, departments, groups and volunteers that helped repair and remove damage from an Easter weekend windstorm during its annual Christmas Parade in downtown Scottsboro Monday, Dec. 7.
“Now that it has been a few months and things are beginning to look more normal again, we tend to forget the sacrifices made by so many hard working men and women,” Chamber president and CEO Rick Roden said. “The parade is another way to say thanks again.”
The parade, which will begin at 6 p.m. at Collins Elementary School, is themed “Jackson County Christmas.” The intent is for participants to offer a salute of gratitude to the men and women from the immediate area and around the region that responded in a time of need. Hundreds of people took part in cleaning up public and private property in the wake of the powerful storm that downed trees, power lines and did considerable damage to personal property.
“The horrible weather destruction of last spring reminds us of how fragile life is and how vulnerable we are to the forces of nature. Thank goodness for those that worked to help pick up the pieces and attempt to make us whole again,” Roden said.
The parade will continue north on Broad Street to the courthouse square before ending. Lineup begins at 4:30 p.m. in front of Collins Elementary School. Individuals or groups wanting to participate in the parade must be registered by 4 p.m. today. There is a $10 donation for each entry with proceeds benefitting the Community Service League’s annual Angel Tree Christmas project to provide for the needs of Jackson County’s foster children during the holidays. To enter the parade of for more information contact the Chamber office at 256-259-5500.
