Four indicted on sex crimes
Published March 20, 2009
The March session of the Jackson County Grand Jury resulted in several indictments against defendants accused of sex crimes against minor victims.
Mickey Lynn Baker, 45, of Scottsboro was charged with Rape First Degree and Sexual Abuse First Degree in January after being arrested.
The Grand Jury indicted Baker on five additional charges including Sexual Abuse of a Child Under 12 Years of Age, Attempted Sexual Abuse of a Child Under 12 Years of Age, two charges of Rape First Degree and Sexual Abuse First Degree.
District Attorney Charlie Rhodes said the charges against Baker involve five different alleged victims.
"A number of the charges go back several years," said Rhodes. "And some are more recent."
Initially arrested last December, John Edward Baker, 54, of Bridgeport was indicted on four counts of Sodomy First Degree and four counts of Sexual Abuse of a Child Under 12 Years of Age.
Rhodes said the allegations all involve the same alleged victim.
Crystal Brandon, 31, of Scottsboro was indicted on a charge of Rape Second Degree, stemming from an alleged incident in 2007 involving a 15-year-old boy, according to Rhodes.
One other defendant was indicted on 12 counts of Sexual Abuse First Degree.
However, the defendant's name cannot be released due to the age placing the person in the possible category of youthful offender status.
Rhodes said the felony trial docket is set for the week of May 18.
