Man jailed in theft
Published February 5, 2010
A Woodville woman came home to a surprise Wednesday when she found two would-be thieves inside.
Captain Eric Woodall said the woman returned home around 12 p.m. on Kimberly Drive when she saw a vehicle parked in her driveway.
“When she entered the residence, there were two males inside,” Woodall said. “They fled the house, got in the vehicle parked in the driveway and left.”
Woodall said surrounding law enforcement agencies were notified of the alleged incident and given a description of the vehicle.
Madison County Sheriff’s deputies stopped the vehicle around 6 p.m. in Madison County.
“After further investigation, one person was arrested,” Woodall said.
Christopher Dewayne Croft, 18, of Owens Crossroads, was charged with Burglary Third Degree and Theft Third Degree.
Woodall said a juvenile involved in the incident is also expected to be arrested.
A small amount of change was taken from the residence.
“The owner arrived just in time to interrupt the burglary,” he said.
Investigator Craig Holcomb assisted in the investigation.
Croft remained in the Jackson County Jail Thursday morning, awaiting bond.
