Driver’s to face challenge
Published September 26, 2008
It's a test of man and machine.
This weekend's Crow Mountain Hill Climb up Jackson County Road 33 outside of Hollywood pits man and his automobile against the clock. Along the way, the driver must negotiate two miles of hairpin curves up a steep, and sometimes slippery roadway.
The fourth annual Crow Mountain Hill Climb is sanctioned by the Tennessee Valley Region of the Sports Car Club of America. The organization is also responsible for operating the race.
Drivers, both men and women, challenge not only the twisting two-lane roadway up Crow Mountain but the clock as well as each tries to win in their particular class.
Some of the most experienced hill climb racers from across the Southeast are expected to take part in the two-day event scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.
SCCA sanctioned meets are staffed by trained volunteers whose goal is to make the event safe and enjoyable for drivers and spectators alike. The 55,000 member organization has been hosting events for over 60 years.
Jackson County Road 33 will be closed both Saturday and Sunday for the event. Practice and timed runs begin at 6:30 a.m.
Spectators are encouraged to park in an area adjacent to the starting line. Buses will be provided to transport guests to viewing areas along the course.
Cool Shirt, a company that provides products for personal cooling, is the events title sponsor. CenturyTel, Vancleef Racing Enterprises, Inc., Document Destruction Services and the Greater Jackson County Chamber of Commerce.
