Christmas Charities set applicant make-up day

Published October 8, 2009

Christmas Charities of Jackson County is preparing to help those in need during the holiday season. The organization will accept make-up day applications for assistance Thursday, Oct. 22 at various locations around the county.

The volunteer organization provides holiday gifts and food for children and the elderly in low-income families. Those in need must meet Housing and Human Services poverty guidelines.

Christmas Charities has served Jackson County for a number of years. The group anticipates more families than ever will be in need of assistance this year with a down economy and increased unemployment.

Applications will be taken in Bridgeport, Pisgah, Section, Scottsboro and Stevenson.

Applicants must be legal residents of Jackson County and must meet poverty level guidelines.

The agency receives donations from the community to accommodate the families in need of help. Clubs, school and church groups and individuals are encouraged to adopt one or more families and provide for their needs at Christmas. The organization will accept cash donations for use in helping families who are not adopted.

Applications for assistance will be taken as follows:

• Bridgeport City Hall — 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

• Pisgah Service Center —9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

• Section Town Hall —9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

• Scottsboro Greater Jackson County Chamber of Commerce —9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

• Stevenson Michael Scott Learning Center —9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
