Get to know Jackson County

Published July 28, 2010

Applications are being taken for the Adult Leadership Jackson County class coordinated by the Jackson County Cooperative Extension office.

The program provides participants an overview of the county including its judicial system, history, agriculture, local government, education and economic development efforts.

The class meets every second Tuesday of the month from October through April. It begins with an overnight stay designed as a team building exercise at the Paint Rock Valley Lodge in Estillfork. The program concludes with a trip to the Alabama Statehouse in Montgomery for a visit with the county's local legislative delegation.

Potential candidates for the class must sign up before September 1. Applications are available online at www.aces.edu on the Jackson County link or can be picked up at the extension office located at 27115 John T. Reid Parkway in Scottsboro. The cost is $300, which includes two meals each meeting day and all expenses for the trip to Montgomery.

The class is limited to 20 people. Orientation begins with a meeting in September. For additional information contact Mike Sims, County Extension Coordinator at 256-574-2143.
