Stewart indicted for March murder
Published June 25, 2009
A Jackson County Grand Jury has indicted James Kendall Stewart in the March murder of a mentally handicapped Scottsboro man, who had been reported missing by his family.
Michael Gary Faulk, 50, was found two days later murdered off County Road 46, near the Mud Creek area.
Authorities said Faulk suffered from blunt force trauma to the head.
Scottsboro investigators arrested Stewart and charged him with murder.
Investigators said Faulk and Stewart knew each other.
The Grand Jury completed the June session last Friday, including returning Distribution of Controlled Substance indictments against 11 defendants.
Nineteen other defendants were indicted for Manufacturing of Methamphetamine. Two other defendants will face indictments for Trafficking in Cocaine, while 53 more were charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance.
“The large number of drug indictments is a result of some hard work by law enforcement agencies in this county,” said District Attorney Charlie Rhodes.
Rhodes said the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and Scottsboro Police Department had operations where they were able to make a number of arrests on defendants accused of selling drugs.
“Officers are working hard on those who are still manufacturing meth,” said Rhodes. “There were also a lot of drug cases presented to the Grand Jury this term because the forensic lab is beginning to get caught up on its backlog of cases and are getting the analysis of drugs to us much more quickly.”
In all, the Grand Jury turned out 324 true bills.
The next Jackson County Grand Jury will meet in September.
