Man’s antics end in arrest
Published August 18, 2009
A Pisgah man was arrested Sunday after beginning the day as a passenger in a vehicle.
Darrell Frederic Grider, 41, of Pisgah was charged with Theft First Degree, Criminal Mischief First Degree and Assault Third Degree.
Chief Deputy Chuck Phillips of the Jackson County Sheriff's Office said two men were traveling together on Alabama Highway 40 in Dutton when the passenger allegedly began beating the driver.
“The driver said he stopped and got out of the vehicle,” said Phillips. “The passenger then got in the driver's seat and drove off.”
Later in the evening, deputies found the vehicle, a 1989 GMC Vandura, burning at the intersection of County Road 58 and County Road 60.
Phillips said while deputies were investigating the burned vehicle, the suspect pulled up to the scene, where he was arrested.
The victim, whose name was not released, suffered only minor injuries, according to Phillips.
Phillips said the relationship between the two men was not known.
“I’m sure there’s a story there,” Phillips said. “We just don't know it, at least yet.”
Grider remained in the Jackson County Jail Monday on a $10,500 bond.
