Bison roll to big win

The North Sand Mountain boys basketball team bounced back from a tough season-opening loss with a dominating performance on Tuesday.
NSM scored 39 points in the second quarter and rolled to an 89-34 victory over Valley Head in Higdon.
The Bison led 22-8 after one quarter before taking full command thanks to a 61-19 halftime lead. NSM (1-1) led 80-24 after three quarters.
"We played well," said NSM coach Tracy Vest. "Played liked we're supposed to."
Five Bison scored in double figures. Colby Dixon led a balanced NSM offensive attack with 15 points, while Nick Baker added 14 and Zak Walsh 13. Kennedy Marion and Max Kirby chipped in 10 points apiece.
• Schedule change: NSM returns to the court Saturday for a clash with its out-of-state rival Dade County in Trenton, Ga.
Games begin at 4:30 p.m with the junior varsity boys followed by the varsity girls game and the varsity boys games. Those games were originally scheduled for Dec. 5.
• Boaz 87, Scottsboro 48 — At Boaz, the Pirates outscored Scottsboro 26-11 in the second quarter en route to handing the Wildcats a setback Tuesday night.
Scottsboro (0-2) trailed 19-10 after one period and Boaz increased its advantage to 45-21 at halftime. The Pirates led 65-33 after three quarters.
Carson Hutchins and Jakes Lewis both scored nine points for the Wildcats, who also got eight points from Ben Word, seven from Chase Sims and six from Blake Paradise.

• New Hope 77, Woodville 66 — At New Hope, the visiting Panthers had their two game-winning streak snapped.
The game was tied 17-all after one quarter, but New Hope surged in front 40-28 at halftime and led 54-38 after three quarters.
"We had a lot of turnovers and we didn't really defend well all night," said Woodville coach Bo Harding. "We've got to play a lot better in our future games."
Kyle Holt and Brent Lankford each scored 14 points for Woodville (2-2). Coty Durham added 12 points while Brett Dixon and Jacob Maynard each had eight.
• Asbury 75, Paint Rock Valley 23 — At Asbury, the Pirates fell behind 18-9 after one quarter and never recovered against the Rams Tuesday night.
The game was a rematch of a Class 1A Northeast Sub-regional from last season.
Cody Evans led PRV (0-2) with 18 points and five rebounds while Chris Doss added five points. Jacob Walton scored 17 points and Cody Zajac added 13 for Asbury (3-0).
