McDonald’s back in business next week
Published December 17, 2009
The newly-rebuilt McDonald’s restaurant is expected to reopen as early as next week.
Outside the restauant Wednesday, workers are preparing the landscaping and parking lot, while others posted signs and menus to be ready for reopening day.
“We were scheduled for about 100 days, so we’ll be close to that,” said store owner Ron Dutton of the construction phase.
Demolition of the old building began in mid-September. After it was completed and debris was removed, Hudson Company of Henagar began work on the 4,650-square foot facility.
Differences in the old and larger, new building, Dutton said, is the updated equipment. Dutton said the new store also added the McCafe´ specialty coffee beverages.
The building will be a little wider and a little deeper, he said previously. The business will include a drive-thru lane and approximately the same number of parking spaces. New landscaping will also be put in place around the entire property.
An expanded, indoor play area is located in the right front of the new facility.
The building isn’t the only thing that’s expanding.
Dutton said the restaurant will have approximately 80 employees, 30 of whom are new hires. He added a large number of the store’s employees have been working at other McDonald’s stores during the rebuild.
Dutton, who owns the store with his wife, Charlotte, and daughter, Christie Bruce, said he’s excited about the upcoming reopening.
“We’ll have a lot of customers glad we’re back open too,” Dutton said.
Store manager Gena Luther said she’s absolutely ready for the new store to open.
“We’re excited and ready to open the doors for our new customers and old customers as well,” she said. “We had a lot of regular people coming in everyday who we miss.”
When the store reopens next week, Dutton said, it will be open 24-hours a day, just as it was before the closing.
