Chamber sets Montgomery trip
Published March 20, 2010
It’s time for the Greater Jackson County Chamber of Commerce to put its concerns before Alabama legislators once again.
The Chamber has scheduled its annual trip to Montgomery to meet with elected officials and representatives from a number of stage agencies for April 7-8.
“Citizens of Jackson County have the opportunity to express ideas and suggestions to our legislative delegation,” Chamber Chairman of the Board Andy Mann said. “We will be meeting with Sen. Lowell Barron and representatives John Robinson and Butch Taylor. There is also a briefing scheduled with other state officials to discuss concerns for our area.”
Chamber members and others are urged to take part in the meetings. The total cost is $295 per person, which includes lodging, four meals and transportation. The deadline for reservations is Wednesday, March 24.
“As business persons it is essential we communicate with our elected officials on both the state and federal levels concerning our needs and desires,” Larry Kirkland, vice chairman of Public Policy and Advocacy for the Chamber’s Focus Jackson Initiative said. “There is no substitute for a face to face discussion with these individuals.”
The Chamber all sponsors an annual trip to Washington D.C. to meet with federal elected officials and agency representatives as well.
“This is why we organize and execute group visits,” Kirkland said of the Chamber-sponsored trips. “Well informed groups and one-on-one discussions always produce the most positive results.”
For more information on the trip contact the Chamber at 259-5500 or 800-259-5508.
