Cats suffer setbacks at Plainview tourney

Scottsboro's bad luck with teams from Marshall County continued last Wednesday at the Plainview varsity boys Thanksgiving Tournament in Rainsville.
Douglas edged Scottsboro 70-65 in overtime, handing the Wildcats their fifth loss this season against teams from the neighboring county.
Douglas led 5-2 after a low scoring first quarter, led 21-19 at halftime and 43-42 after three before Scottsboro rallied to force overtime.
Jake Lewis scored 21 points and Ben Word added 19 for Scottsboro, which also got nine from Sammy Douglas.
During play at the tournament on Saturday, Catholic-Huntsville edged the Wildcats 44-39 in a low-scoring contest.
Scottsboro trailed 10-9, 23-19 and 33-30 at the quarter breaks.
Douglas led the Wildcats (1-6) with 17 points while Word and Blake Paradise each scored eight.
Valley Head Tournament Sylvania 85, NSM 59 — At the Valley Head Thanksgiving Tournament on Saturday, Sylvania used a big second quarter to spark its win over NSM.
NSM led 25-23 after one quarter but the Rams outscored the Bison 32-12 in the second to lead 55-37 at halftime. Sylvania (4-1) led 85-59 after there quarters.
Nick Baker hit four 3-pointer and closed with 24 points for NSM, which also got 12 points from Kennedy Marion.
Zach King led four Rams in double figures with 19 points. Leighton Wright added 15 for Sylvania while Donavan Dalton had 14 and Justin Everett had 13.
Regular season Whitesburg Christian 51, Paint Rock Valley 36 — At Huntsville, PRV fell to Whitesburg Christian in its Class 1A Area 14 opener recently.
Cody Evans scored a game-high 22 points for the Pirates (0-3, 0-1), who also got 10 points from Christopher Doss and three from Anthony Venerable.
The teams meet again Friday, this time at Princeton, in another 1A Area 14 contest.
