SCC celebrates great season

The SCC Allstar Cheerleaders from Shasta’s Cheer Center enjoyed an outstanding season, placing well in several competitions.

The teams are divided into youth and senior squads.

The youth squad placed second at the Showtyme Cheer and Dance in Huntsville; second at Cheersport in Birmingham; third at WCA Nationals in Nashville; first at Americheer Music City Challenge in Nashville; third at COA Nationals in Birmingham and first at Cheer Tech Bama Bash in Birmingham.

The team is made up of girls from all over Jackson County, Marshall County and DeKalb County.

“These girls have worked extra hard and some so far since the beginning of the season,” said Coach Shasta Stinnett. “None of these girls had ever cheered before, and they learned quickly and worked well together. They had a great season.”

The members of the youth squad include: Taylor Selby, Deanna Smelley, Aleah Ballard, Kaitlyn Jackson, Hannah Benton, Makenzie Bennett, Hannah Beth Ayers, Carley Bolt, Madi Martin, Bailee Chandler, Brittany Paschal, Brianna Bolt, Amber Littles, Breanna Welch, Kaitlyn Wilson, Tyler Trott, Tiffany Guess, Ashlynn Jones, Alyssa Bolt, Paige Satterfield, Holly Summers and Makayla Venable.

The squad is coached by Stinnett, Tanya Hooper, Tonya Lankford and Tasha Carter.

The senior squad also performed very well, earning several first-place finishes.

The senior squad placed second at the NCA Music City Championship in Nashville; first and grand champion at the showtyme Cheer and Dance in Huntsville; first and grand champion at Cheer America in Birmingham; first and highest overall score at Cheersport in Birmingham; second at WCA Nationals in Nashville; third at Americheer Nationals in Chattanooga; second at COA Nationals in Birmingham; and first at Cheertech Bama Bash in Birmingham.

The senior squad will be attending the Americheer International Cheer and Dance Competition at Walt Disney World in mid-March.

“These are girls and guys from all of Jackson County, attending various schools – some are even at Northeast Community College,” Stinnett said. “They have really worked well together and had many major accomplishments this season.”

The senior squad, which is coached by Stinnett, includes: Morgan Satterfield, Corinne Middlebrooks, Jordan Smith, Mercedes Gant, Tonya Lankford, Jessica Beattie, Kathryn Craft, Tanya Hooper, Peyton Brizendine, Asia Thomas, Tasha Carter, Brooke Stephens, Cheris Eustace, Emily Eustace, Antonio Evans, Shayna McCarver, Peyton Johnson, Trinity Ridley, Caitlin Harrison, Nick Potter, Jessie Trott, Amber Starkey, Adria Hill, Meagan Rodgers, Whitney Fielder and Meghan Adams.

Sign-ups for the 2009-10 season will begin March 25, and tryouts will be on April 11. Any child, both boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 18, is welcome to try out.

The age cut-off date is May 31, 2009. The child must be 6 by this day and no older than 18 by this date.
