Gas prices in state holding steady
Published July 23, 2010
Gas prices in Alabama and across the nation have remained the same in the past week and barely changed at all in a month.
Most national experts expect it to stay the same way for the rest of the summer, possibly even dropping a little more.
On Thursday, in Alabama, motorists were paying an average of $2.54 per gallon of gas, two cents cheaper than a month ago.
Nationally, drivers were paying $2.72 per gallon, one cent less than the previous month.
Experts were saying Thursday that if oil prices break a little, gas prices could go down even more in the next month or so.
Gasoline demand has been fairly weak for the traditionally busy summer driving season, as Americans hold on to their cash in the uncertain economy.
Oil and gas supplies remain ample, which could translate into declining pump prices, said analyst Phil Flynn.
However, oil prices rose 72 cents to $76.73 a barrel Thursday, as investors kept an eye on potential tropical storms in the Atlantic and improving stock markets.
Alabama drivers continue to pay less than most drivers across the nation.
