Three face charges in Bridgeport drug bust

Published November 24, 2009

Three people were arrested late Friday night as the result of a meth lab bust at local motel on Highway 277 in Bridgeport.

Jackson County investigator Craig Holcomb said the narcotics unit of the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, along with assistance from Bridgeport and Stevenson police, served a search warrant at the motel.

“It resulted in a meth lab and a small amount of methamphetamine being located,” said Holcomb.

He added the search warrant was the result of a two-week investigation.

James Douglas Johnson, 36, of Bridgeport and Pamela Renee Phillips, 24, of Stevenson were both arrested and charged with Unlawful Manufacture of a Controlled Substance First Degree (meth) and Possession of a Controlled Substance (meth).

A third person, Thomas Lee Hughes, 39, of Stevenson was also arrested.

"[Hughes] was outside the room when officers arrived to serve the search warrant," said Holcomb. "He was arrested on an outstanding warrant."

Holcomb said Hughes allegedly had a small amount of meth in his possession and was also charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance.

All three individuals were taken to the Jackson County Jail. Phillips has posted a $15,000 bond and has been released.

Johnson, who was on state parole, is being held without bond and additional charges are expected.

Hughes also remained in jail, as of Monday.

Holcomb said a cleanup crew was contacted to dispose of the meth lab.
