Rescue squad comes to aid of injured hiker

Published May 12, 2009

A 15-year-old Boy Scout from Nashville was injured at the Walls of Jericho Saturday night after falling and hurting his foot.

Eddie Tigue of the Scottsboro-Jackson County Rescue Squad said the unit responded to a call at 6 p.m.

"The boy was on an outing with his troop from Nashville when he was injured," said Tigue.

Hytop Fire Department and Highland Ambulance Service also responded to the call.

Tigue said the teenager was transported to the top of the mountain by squad members with an ATV where he was treated.

"The rescue was complicated by the high water in the creeks at the bottom of the mountain," said Tigue. "The trail was very wet and muddy from the recent rainfall."

Tigue said the teenager's injuries were not believed to be serious.
