Man charged in school break in

A Bridgeport man is in the Jackson County Jail after being accused of breaking into North Jackson High School early Tuesday morning.
Danny Earl Lawson Jr., 20, of Bridgeport, was arrested by Bridgeport police officer Gary Brandon after being stopped on a John Deere Gator, traveling into Bridgeport on Alabama Highway 277.
Jackson County Chief Deputy Chuck Phillips said the Gator had been stolen from the school, along with tools and electronic equipment found on the vehicle, valued at $11,895.
Brandon contacted investigator Dale Brewster, who conducted an investigation.
Lawson is also accused of breaking into a vehicle on the school’s campus and causing $525 worth of damage.
“He allegedly stole credit cards, a checkbook and some change from the vehicle,” Phillips said.
In addition, Lawson allegedly took individual property, valued at $510 which included boots, clothing and electronic equipment.
A nylon bag with a football, valued at $30, and more clothing and electronic equipment, valued at $300, was allegedly taken.
A coke machine in the school suffered $2,700 worth of damage. Lawson is accused of taking $505 in cash and change from the machine.
Brewster was assisted by the Stevenson Police Department in the investigation.
“All of the items have been returned to the owners,” Phillips said.
Lawson has been charged with Burglary Third Degree, Unlawful Breaking and Entering of a Vehicle, Receiving Stolen Property First Degree, three counts of Receiving Stolen Property Second Degree, two counts of Receiving Stolen Property Third Degree, Criminal Mischief First Degree and Criminal Mischief Second Degree.
Lawson remained in jail Tuesday awaiting bond being set.
