Police building named among best
Published December 2, 2009
Much of Ralph Dawe’s tenure as Scottsboro’s police chief has been dealing with getting his department a new building.
City leaders contemplated building a new building or renovating the old city hall.
In the end, renovation won out over new construction. Over a year of work and a cost of $3.2 million later, Dawe and his department have a beautiful, spacious, new facility.
“I know we did the right thing,” Dawe says of renovating the old building rather than building a new one.
They opened for business in April. Seven months later, the building was honored at a banquet in Huntsville by Associated Builders and Contractors Inc.
Out of 32 entries in North Alabama, the Scottsboro police building was selected as “Best Renovation under $4 Million” and “Overall Project of the Year.”
Lee Builders Inc., of Huntsville, was the contractor on the project, while JH Partners, of Huntsville, was the architect.
“We’re very proud,” Dawe said. “I saw the other entries, and there were some beautiful buildings. For us to win, it means a lot.”
