Off duty deputy tracks down alleged burglar

Published November 21, 2009

Jackson County Sheriff’s deputy Travis Renfro had just gotten home from work before he found himself back on the road.

As he was walking into his home, Renfro received information about a vehicle involved in burglaries earlier Thursday.

He jumped back in his patrol car and, after a short chase, he stopped the vehicle.

Keith Ray Goolesby, 37, of Trenton, Ga., was arrested and charged with DUI, Receiving Stolen Property First Degree and Receiving Stolen Property Third Degree.

Both burglaries allegedly took place Thursday morning, one on County Road 292 in Higdon and the other on County Road 304 in Bryant.

Renfro was assisted by investigator Craig Holcomb and Sgt. Kenneth Miller.

At one of the residences, Phillips said $5,800 worth of tools was stolen. The other residence reported $1,000 worth of tools taken.

Goolesby was taken to the Jackson County Jail.
