Two people accused of trespassing landed in jail on drug charges.
According to Chief Deputy Chuck Phillips of the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, Bridgeport police officer Ted Thompson responded to a trespassing call at a residence on County Road 94 Saturday.
“When he arrived, he spoke to a woman, who said someone was next door in her mother’s house,” Phillips said.
When Thompson entered the residence, a man and woman fled on foot, according to Phillips.
“Once he was inside, he found items consistent with making meth,” Phillips said.
County investigators Craig Holcomb and Kevin Miller were called to the scene. Stevenson police officer Sammy Smith also assisted.
Phillips said officers located four one-pot, also known as shake and bake, meth labs.
Smith located the female suspect at a residence on Kansas Avenue in Stevenson.
Melissa Ann Steele, 33, of Stevenson, was arrested and charged with Manufacturing of a Controlled Substance First Degree.
On Monday, sheriff’s deputies Steve Whritenour and John Hall arrested Joseph W. Owens, 32, of South Pittsburg, Tenn., in connection with the case.
During the arrest at McFarland Court in Bridgeport, deputies allegedly located marijuana and two different miligrams of Hydrocodine.
Owens was charged with Manufacturing of a Controlled Substance First Degree in connection with the Saturday incident. He was also charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Marijuana Second Degree.
Steele and Owens were both transported to the Jackson County Jail, where they are currently out on bond.
