Local road gets a new speed limit
Published August 13, 2009
A Hollywood county road will soon have new posted signage indicating a speed limit change.
At its regular meeting Monday night, the Jackson County Commission approved a resolution from the Public Works Department to change the speed limit on County Road 33 to 45 mph.
Interim County Engineer Charity Manning told the commission the speed limit on the road had previously not been posted. She added when a speed is not posted, the limit is 45 mph.
The new posted speed limit will affect Hollywood’s County Road 33 from County Road 229 to County Road 111.
The commission unanimously approved the request.
In other business, the commission:
•amended the July 27 meeting minutes to state “Renewal of Steve Helms’ appointment on the Jackson County E-911 Board for the term of July 1, 2009 to July 1, 2013." The commission approved similar minute amendments for the reappointments of Doug Sisk and David Crawford to the E-911 Board.
•approved payment of $10 to Coosa Valley Youth Services for a medical reimbursement.
•approved payment of $945 to Coosa Valley Youth Services for detention services in July.
•approved minutes from the July 27 meeting.
•tabled a motion to approve a resolution regarding third-party transportation services for the Jackson County Council on Aging. Commissioner Horace Clemons made the motion to table the issue until the commission could speak with Council on Aging Director Rita Williams.
It's important, Wheeler said, for the council to adopt a policy before Standard and Poor's visit to get a good financial rating.
Part of the policy the council will vote on, according to Wheeler, is keeping at least six weeks of operating expenses in reserve.
"Again, that's something we pretty much already do," said Wheeler. "We just need the council to approve it in a policy."
