Council finalizes engineer job description

Published February 13, 2009

The Scottsboro City Council approved a job description for a new city engineer Monday evening at its regular meeting.

The council also approved making the position a classified position, meaning it wouldn't be appointed every four years.

Scottsboro Mayor Melton Potter said several weeks ago he wanted to replace the city planner position with an engineer.

City Planner Curtis Davis is expected to retire in April.

Potter said Monday the city received 13 applications for the position of engineer.

"I think we can find what we are looking for," said Potter. "We've got some impressive resumes."

Potter said the engineer would work out of city hall and would also be responsible for the planning.

"That person will also work hand-in-hand with the street department," said Potter.

In other business:

• The council approved hiring Aldrich Publishing to redesign its website for a one-time fee of $4,000.

• Councilman Keith Smith appointed former City Clerk Gail Duffey to the Abatement Board.

• Potter re-appointed Jim Olyniec to the Planning Commission.

• A vacancy on the Housing Authority Board was announced. Anyone interested in serving on this board is urged to submit a written request into city hall by 12 p.m. on March 5.

• A vacancy on the Personnel Board was also announced. Written requests must be submitted by 12 p.m. on March 5.

• Global Repair Ltd. of Canada was awarded a low bid of $30,950 for the purchase of a compost windrow turner for the Solid Waste Department.

• High Country Automotive was awarded a low bid of $22,923 for an SUV for the Recreation Department.
