Scottsboro 7th-grade boys win tourney title

The Scottsboro seventh-grade boys basketball team rolled to the championship of the Hampton Cove Tournament last Saturday.

Scottsboro (11-3) posted a season-high 21 assists as it cruised past rival Fort Payne 66-18 in the title game.

Spencer Garner was a perfect 5-for-5 from the field on his way to a team-high 14 points, a total also matched by Tavaras Tolliver. Both Jake Wright and Zach Reichle poured in eight points while Donye Richardson and Joe Wood contributed six each.

Reichle and Richardson led the Wildcats on the boards with eight rebounds apiece. Kelsey Stevens was a spark off the bench with six assists. Garner and Khael Sanford each dished out three assists.

Scottsboro 39, Hampton Cove 29 — A rash of early turnovers had the Wildcats down 15-13 at the half, but Scottsboro came out with a fierce full court press after halftime to fuel a 14-5 third quarter run in the semifinals.

Tavaras Tolliver paced the Wildcats' scoring with 14 points and also added five steals. Donye Richardson and Joe Wood each scored six points, while Kortez Sanford (eight rebounds) and Richardson (seven) effectively manned the glass.

Junior High Girls
NSM 48, Ider 14 — At Higdon, North Sand Mountain improved to 13-0 on the season with a win over Ider on Thursday.

NSM held leads of 12-3, 25-5 and 39-7 at the quarter breaks. Cassidy Roman paced the Bison with 18 points, while teammate Micayla Bain had 12 and Alexis Godsehalx had six.

Woodville 34, New Hope 11 — At New Hope, Tristin Loudermilk scored 12 points as the Panthers rolled to the win. Baylee Webb and Krysta McGinnis both added six for Woodville.

NSM 40, Woodville 22 — At Woodville, NSM pulled way in the second half to defeat county rival Woodville on Monday.

NSM led 6-1 after one quarter and 12-5 at halftime before stretching its advantage to 24-13 heading into the fourth quarter.

Cassidy Romans scored 13 points for NSM, which also got nine from Hannah Vest and seven from Kennedy George. Tristin Loudermilk scored nine for Woodville.

Huntland 40, Woodville 31 — At Huntland, Tenn., Tristin Loudermilk had 13 points and eight rebounds in a losing effort for Woodville while teammate Baylee Webb had 11 points, seven assists and four steals.
