Eagles soar in season opener

The Pisgah boys basketball team is off to a winning start.
Pisgah opened its 2009-10 season with a 71-61 victory over Towns County (Ga.) Monday night.
The game was part of the Towns County Tip-Off Tournament in Hiawassee, Ga. The round-robin event concluded Tuesday night with Pisgah facing Rabun County (Ga.).
The Eagles (1-0) had five players score at least eight points during the win.
Josh Perialis scored a team-high 22 points for Pisgah, while Zac Barringer totaled 19 points and eight rebounds and Brandon Sensor had 15 points and nine steals. Corey Wheeler chipped in 10 points and Skylar Hall added eight points and 10 rebounds.
Bradley Swanson scored 27 points for Towns County.
Girls Towns County 65, Pisgah 46 — At Hiawassee, Ga., the Eagles suffered their first loss of the season during the Towns County Tip-Off Tournament on Monday.
Pisgah (2-1) led 11-7 after one quarter of play, but the host team outscored the Eagles 21-8 in the second to claim a 28-19 halftime lead.
Towns County put the game away in the second half, taking a 53-32 advantage into the fourth quarter.
Dallas Gilley finished with 10 points for Pisgah, which also got nine from Ella Denes. Lauren Millican closed with eight points and 16 rebounds.
Melissa Conrad scored 22 points for Towns County.
