Farmers Telephone Co-op to offer digital TV
Published October 24, 2009
Television viewing on much of Sand Mountain is about to change, as Farmers Telecommunications Cooperative will soon launch digital television service.
“FTCtv” will offer subscribers a wide selection of channels, and will be available as part of bundled packages that include local and long distance telephone service and high-speed broadband Internet.
FTC Marketing Director Brandi Lyles said the digital television service is now in the final testing phase, and should be available to customers by the end of the year.
“Besides amazing picture and sound quality, digital television is less susceptible than satellite TV to interruptions caused by cloud over and rainstorms,” Lyles said.
She said the signal is delivered by way of fiber optic cables.
“It doesn’t have all the service issues related to traditional cable TV,” Lyles said. “It’s just a better experience, and we’re going to be offering bundles to customers so they can save money.”
She said the FTC coverage area includes a large portion of Sand Mountain, extending from Bryant to portions of Crossville, and she said that would soon be expanding into Section, Dutton and additional areas near Rainsville.
Lyles said the digital television service would be offered throughout the entire service area and bundle packages would include 200 channels.
