SHS boys finish 17th at Hoover Open

Published March 3, 2010

The Scottsboro varsity boys track and field team notched a 17th-place finish in the highly competitive Hoover Open on Saturday.

Hoover won the event with 165.60 points with Opelika claiming the runner-up spot.

Scottsboro coach Benny Wright said the Wildcats are still in the process of determining which athletes fit best in which events.

"The boys are struggling from losses due to graduation from last year, by others moving away and injuries to key runners," said Scottsboro coach Benny Wright. "We will continue to try to improve and move athletes around to different events to get to where we need to be."

Caleb Bray had the Wildcats' top finish, a ninth-place outing in the 300 hurdles (45.42), while Drew Ferrell posted an 11th-place finish in the javelin throw (117-02).

Scottsboro's 4x100-meter relay team of Patrick Pereira, David Moorman, Isaiah Carter and Carson Hutchins finished ninth (47.82).

The 4x400 team of Bray, Madison Estes, Pereira and Garrett Sexton finished 11th (3:45.69), as did the 4x800 team (9:12.10) of Jacob Cantrell, Evan McGee, Daniel Pierce and Madison Estes.

Scottsboro's mid-week meet at Fort Payne was canceled Tuesday due to inclement weather. The Wildcats return to action Saturday at the Alabama A&M University Bulldog Relays in Huntsville.
