SHS teams start new agility program
Published July 28, 2010
The Scottsboro volleyball and softball teams have started a new speed and agility program.
David Jacob, the creator and trainer of the Chameleon 360ST speed and agility program, conducted a speed and agility clinic for Scottsboro volleyball and softball players at Carter Gym Tuesday afternoon.
Jacob has been a trainer for some 17 years, and he created the Chameleon 360ST program three years ago.
Among his notable clients are NFL football players Rolando McClain (a former Alabama football standout) and Jerraud Powers (a former Auburn standout as well as the Wallace State softball program, one of country's top junior college programs and professional basketball player Mike Wilks.
"What I attempt is to take athletes and teach them proper balance and the fundamentals of movement," Jacob said, adding the program stresses the importance of balance and posture. "All the fundamentals of foot work come into play."
Whether it's young athletes or professional ones, the program regimen is the same, Jacob said.
"The majority of the workout that a 10-year-old does is what a pro athlete does too," he said. "If you can jump or walk, you can do the program."
Scottsboro varsity softball coach and junior varsity volleyball coach Cindy Patterson expects the program to pay dividends for players in both sports. "We're going to progress through it and we're going to see benefits," she said.
Scottsboro varsity volleyball coach Jeff Adkins said the training will help his team improve its "court coverage" ability.
