Couple charged with endangering child

Published December 10, 2009

A mother and her boyfriend have been charged in a case involving her child, who was reported missing last week.

Cpt. Eric Woodall of the Jackson County Sheriff's Office said Pamela Thompson, 27, of Stevenson, and Craig Allan Guess Jr., 27, also of Stevenson, were arrested Tuesday afternoon and charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

A missing child alert was issued by the Alabama Department of Public Safety for 23-month-old John Will Thompson last Thursday.

According to authorities, Thompson and Guess had carried the child to a local doctor in Scottsboro.

Because of injuries on the child, the Department of Human Resources was notified.

“The mother got wind DHR had been called, got the baby and left before he was treated,” Sgt. Scott Matthews of the Scottsboro Police Department said.

Thompson turned her child over to medical personnel Friday morning. Authorities reported the child had visible bruises.

The child was taken to T.C. Thompson Children’s Hospital in Chattanooga for evaluation and treatment, where he was later released the same day.

Jackson County Sheriff's Investigator Paul Smith and the Scottsboro Police Department investigated the case.

Thompson and Guess are currently out of jail on bond.
