Strong start propels Woodville past NSM

Published November 17, 2009

The Woodville Panthers got a confidence boosting win Friday night.

The Panthers stormed out to a 19-6 lead and rolled to a 78-51 victory over Jackson County foe North Sand Mountain Friday night at WHS.

"It's huge for a multitude of reasons," said Woodville coach Bo Harding. "It gives us confidence that if we can beat a Class 2A team, we can have some good things happen for us when area starts if we play like we're capable of. Also, if we can continue to win, it'll help us for county tournament seeding."

Class 1A Woodville (2-1) led 44-19 at halftime and 59-40 after three quarters en route to its first win against the Bison in years.

"We played really well, about as well as any team I've had here play," Harding said.

Five Panthers scored in double figures, led by Coty Durham's 20-point, 17-rebound effort. Woodville also got 17 points from Jacob Maynard, 16 points and eight assists from Brent Lankford, 13 points from Jabrihl Moore and 11 from Kyle Holt.
