County BOE approves line of credit

Published November 21, 2009

Members of the Jackson County Board of Education approved a $2.9 million dollar line of credit at the board’s regular meeting Thursday night.

“We don’t want to have to borrow, but the reality is, we will,” said Superintendent Ken Harding.

He said the state has asked boards across the state to approve the credit line, saying it will primarily be used for cash flow when checks from the state come late.

J. Michael Ellenburg, president and CEO of First Southern State Bank where the line of credit was established, said the measure is effective through September 30, 2010 and said the school system could draw on the loan anytime and pay it back as soon as they wish.
