Published April 29, 2009
The Scottsboro Wildcats softball team closed the regular season on a winning note Tuesday night.
Class 5A No. 9-ranked Scottsboro went on the road and defeated Class 6A Buckhorn 5-2, avenging an earlier 9-4 loss to the Bucks this season.
Scottsboro coach Cindy Patterson lauded her team's effort in the win.
"We finally played as a team for a full seven innings," Patterson said. "I am very pleased with the things I saw (Tuesday). We have been challenging the girls to step up mentally and they finally responded. We got a good win against a solid team and some definite momentum heading into Friday."
Scottsboro (28-20-3) opens play Friday in the Class 5A Area 14 Tournament at SHS. The top-seeded Wildcats play fourth-seeded Fort Payne at 3 p.m. The championship round begins Saturday at noon.
