Wild ride ends in arrest

Published December 20, 2009

A routine traffic stop for Jackson County Sheriff's deputy Steve Whritenour turned a little wild Thursday in Bryant.

“[Whritenour] attempted to stop a vehicle on a traffic violation,” Chief Deputy Chuck Phillips said. “The vehicle acclerated, turned into private property and came back out on County Road 741.”

According to Phillips, the vehicle turned on County Road 93 and traveled a mile before wrecking at the intersection of County Road 93 and County Road 131.

“The suspect jumped out of his vehicle and ran on foot,” Phillips said. “Steve pursued and captured him.”

Whritenour allegedly found meth, marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the suspect's possession.

Caleb Black, 19, of Ider, was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance (meth), Possession of Marijuana First Degree, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Resisting Arrest and Fleeing to Elude.

Black was transported to the Jackson County Jail, where he remained Friday on a $9,500 bond.
