Charles Arthur Venable
Charles Arthur Venable, 76, went home to be with the Lord Monday, October 13, 2009.
Charles was a lifelong resident of Jackson County. He was a U.S. Army and Air Force Veteran, and was employed by Avondale and Shaw Industries for over 35 years where he was a shift supervisor. His employees referred to him as Charlie.
He was a deacon at the Edgefield Baptist Church and was a member of the Jaycees and a member of the Stevenson Masonic Lodge.
Charles was a Scottsboro High School graduate and attended Northeast Alabama State Junior College on the G.I. bill.
A Christian from a very young age, he always practiced his faith in daily life by study and speaking to others. He was ready to discuss scripture with anyone.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Martha Tidwell Venable; mother-in-law, Jessie Peters of Stevenson; daughter, Lisa Parton (Mickey); sons, John “Wolf” (Lee) Venable and Bryan Venable of Flat Rock; brother, Calvin (Una Faye) Venable of Skyline; sister, Una Raye Webb of Scottsboro; grandson, Wesley “Moose” Parton of Stevenson; granddaughter, Maria Lee Venable of Stevenson; and several nieces and nephews. To his grandchildren he was known as “Goodin.”
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Vinnie Guinn Venable; son, Charles Gregory Venable; and brother, Rev. Herman Venable.
The family will have a memorial service Saturday, October 17, at 2 p.m. at the Stevenson First Baptist Church. All family and friends are invited to attend.
Rudder Funeral Home in Stevenson is in charge of arrangements.
