Jackson County Sheriff's deputies Steve Whritenour and Tracy Holman arrested five people early New Year's Day in connection with meth and drug paraphernalia.
According to Chief Deputy Chuck Phillips, the two deputies spotted a parked vehicle at North Sand Mountain Park in Higdon around 4 a.m. last Friday.
After checking the vehicle, Whritenour and Holman found meth and paraphernalia.
Nicholas Cade Smith, 23, of Wildwood, Ga., was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Four others were charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, including a 24-year-old Bryant male, 20-year-old Flat Rock male, 20-year-old Flat Rock female and a 23-year-old Higdon female.
Phillips said the five individuals were sitting in the park when deputies arrived.
“At 4 a.m., people are going to be checked that are sitting in a public place,” Phillips said.
All five were taken to the Jackson County Jail, where they are each out on bond.
