The event, to be held on the Caldwell Elementary School track behind the church, is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 1 beginning at 4 p.m. Music starts at 5 p.m. with the band A Thousand Second Chances. The group will be followed by Owing Adam at 6 p.m., Whosoever at 7 p.m. and will culminate with the featured group, Everyday Sunday at 8 p.m.
“It’s going to be big,” Grider said of the concert. “We’re pleased to see churches and many in the community to come together for something so important. Our sponsors include many more businesses and individuals.”
Admission is free. Concert goers are only asked to bring back-to-school supplies such as pencils, paper, notebooks, crayons, book bags and other basic school supplies. The items will be distributed to students in both the Scottsboro City and Jackson County school systems at the beginning of the new school year.
“Many children will prepare for this school year without the appropriate tools,” said Clayton Grider, youth minister at FUMC. “We need to make a community effort in providing our students with what they need to be successful.”
In advance of the concert, a celebrity bagging event will be held on July 31 from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. - 6 p.m. and on Saturday, Aug. 1 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. at WalMart in Scottsboro. Baggers will accept cash donations or supplies. The goal is to fill a school bus from front to back and top to bottom with school supplies.
Convenient drop-off locations can be found throughout Jackson County. Donations can be made at both Regions Bank locations in Scottsboro, Woodville Baptist Church, Jameson Inn and First United Methodist Church in Scottsboro.
Refreshments will be sold at the concert. Some vendor spaces are still available.
The concert stage and vendor area will be set up on the track at Caldwell Elementary School, directly behind the church. People are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets for seating.
Everyday Sunday is one of the country’s rising Christian Rock bands. The group will be perform their new release, “Best Night of Our Lives,” which has topped out at number one on the latest charts.
Grider is convinced both the supply drive and concert, which will include a chance for fellowship with strangers and friends, will make an impact on the future of the area’s young people.
He says now is the time to make important changes in the lives of our youth.
"Please plan to be a part of this event,” Grider said. “Please help us that no child is in need and goes without the basic school supplies.”
