Local shelter needs community’s support to save animals from euthanasia

As host of The Price is Right, Bob Barker would always end the show with the following words: “Help control the pet population. Have your pets spayed or neutered.” And it is this very advice that local animal control officers say is one of the most important things the community can do to save cats and dogs from euthanasia.

Courthouse entrances, hours already impacted by budget cuts

The failure of the one-cent sales tax referendum is already beginning to impact county operations. On Friday, the south entrance at the Jackson County Courthouse was closed, leaving the north door as the only entrance for employees and visitors.

Patrick Stewart forgot when he lived outside of Jackson County years ago. It took only one ride when he returned home to live to remember.

County's driver's license office could close Jan. 1

Jackson County’s driver license office could be closed by Jan. 1, 2016, according to Secretary of Law Enforcement Spencer Collier.
