Registration is now underway for the 22nd Annual Industry Appreciation Day, including a golf tournament, river cruise and dinner, to be held at Goose Pond Colony on Thursday, Oct. 1, beginning at 12 p.m.

TVA, local officials sworn to secrecy during Google recruitment

Project Zebra. Project Spike. These were just two of the six code names given to the project that culminated with Google’s announcement on June 24 that it would locate its newest data center in Jackson County. Google executives emphasized that this project be kept top secret during the planning stages, and several TVA and local officials were required to sign non-disclosure agreements requiring confidentiality up until the announcement was made. Two of those sworn to secrecy were Spencer Sessions, TVA’s target market specialist for data centers, and Jackson County Economic Development Authority President and CEO Dus Rogers, who each spoke about the project at last week’s Scottsboro Rotary Club meeting.

Horizons and TBHC Delivers fight hunger in Stevenson

The Horizons-GF Markets convenience store and TBHC Delivers, the largest distributor of Hunt Brothers Pizza, partnered with Faith Baptist Church in July to help the hungry in Stevenson by accepting canned good donations in the store.

SERVPRO honors local business for outstanding revenue performance

SERVPRO, an industry leader in disaster cleanup, restoration and remediation services, recently recognized Samantha and Matt Peterson of SERVPRO of Jackson and DeKalb Counties with the Millionaire’s Bronze award for outstanding revenue performance. The awards event took place at the company’s 46th Annual Convention, held July 6-10 at the Hyatt Regency Chicago. The event attracted a record-setting group of more than 2,700 franchise owners and key employees.

New businesses to fill former K-Mart building in Scottsboro

Months of speculation have floated across the area about what was going on with the K-Mart building on the John T. Reid Parkway in Scottsboro.  This week the rumors ended as the new owners of the 80,000 square foot building announced the tenants to soon fill the spaces.

Google data center in NC sets good example for potential impact of Jackson County site
