Community Calendar for August 30, 2010

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 2

• The Jackson County Master Gardeners will meet at 9:30 a.m. for social time then its regular meeting will begin at 10 a.m. at the St. Luke’s Episcopal fellowship hall.  Please bring refreshments or a door prize and as always visitors are welcome.

• Registration is now underway for the 17th Annual Industry Appreciation Day, including a golf tournament and barbecue dinner, to be held at Goose Pond Colony on Thursday, September 2 at 12 p.m. A lake cruise for non-golfers will depart the gas dock at 1:30 p.m. and return at 4 p.m. Dinner will be served immediately after the tournament between 5 and 5:30 p.m. Spaces are still available for all functions. • The Moriah Closet Thrift Store, Hwy 71 Dutton will have a sale from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. Summer Clothes will be 50 cents each and all other merchandise store wide, except furniture, will be one-half price. All profits help operate the Moriah Christian Children's Home.

•Small Business Council will be at Western Sizzlin at 6p.m. Robert Fanning from Highlands Medical Center will be guest speaker.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 3

• The Moriah Closet Thrift Store, Hwy 71 Dutton will have a sale from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. Summer Clothes will be 50 cents each and all other merchandise store wide, except furniture, will be one-half price. All profits help operate the Moriah Christian Children's Home.

• The Knights of Columbus, Council # 7679 will have its fifth annual barbecue. It will be by order only. Orders will need to be in by August 25. Pick up orders at St Jude hall on Sept. 4. Order forms will be at St Jude church, and at Scenic Realty, or call Gordon Hodges to place orders at (256) 575-9012.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 4

• The Moriah Closet Thrift Store, Hwy 71 Dutton will have a big sale from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. Summer Clothes will be 50 cents each and all other merchandise store wide, except furniture, will be one-half price. All profits help operate the Moriah Christian Children's Home.

• Trinity Lutheran Church, 3512 S Broad St, members will be sharing God's gifts of free cold bottled water and/or a hand fan at First Monday this weekend. Stop by the booth on the court house entry side of the square.

• Rice Cemetery Decoration will be today. Lunch will be served around 11:35 a.m. and there will be a singing in the afternoon. Bring a covered dish or two along with desserts. For more information, call Jennie Smith 256-587-6069.

• Bryant Neighborhood Watch will have Country-style breakfast from 7:30-10:30 a.m., $5 donation. Everyone welcome.

• Paint Rock Valley School Reunion at Masonic Lodge from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Bring covered dish.

• Remember this is Labor Day Weekend for First Monday traders. Come out and enjoy all festivities.

•Jackson County Tea Party at Goosepond Pavillion beginning at 3p.m.-6p.m. Bring you lawn chair and signs. There will be guest speakers. For info, 256-587-0107.

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 5

• The Scottsboro Public Library is having its annual book sale from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. in conjunction with Art in the Park.  Please drop off donations at the library before September 1, 2010.  For more information please call the library at 256-574-4335.

•All law enforcement officers, firemen, rescue squad, and ambulance personnel of Jackson County and City of Scottsboro are invited to our 4th Annual 9-11 appreciation luncheon at Center Point Baptist Church from 11:30a.m. to 1:30p.m. Please call church office if you are able to attend. 256-259-2488.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 11

• Second Saturday of each month Scottsboro Masonic Lodge #359 on Willow St. will host a country breakfast, all you can eat, for $5 donation. Everyone welcome.

• Skyline "Don't Be Blue" family park will have grand opening beginning at 11a.m. Bring own lawn chairs. Food, games, playground, motorcycle exhibit with Hell Fighters Christian Ministry, music by God's Praise, Unity Quartet and much more. • The Northeast Alabama Craftsman's Association Fall Craft Show with over 200 craftsmen and artists will be held from 9 a.m. - 7 p.m. at the Von Braun Center South Hall in Huntsville.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 18

• Boom Days celebrates the cultural heratage of Fort Payne. It is held in downtown Fort Payne and features arts, crafts, fine art, and lots of music, food, and downright fun.  Organizers of the event are offering arts and crafts and fine arts vendor spaces (12 x 12) for $25.  Vendor application forms are downloadable at www.boomdays.org  Vendors must provide a canopy or tent.  Fine art will be placed together.

• Moriah’s Christian Children’s Home ninth Annual Dinner & Auction will be held at 6 p.m. at Scottsboro-Goose Pond Civic Center. Tickets are available at the home, from any board member, the Chamber of Commerce, First Jackson Bank, Deals on Wheels, and Moriah’s Closet in Dutton.
